Save an unfinished post so you can come back to it later, on your own or with your team.

Before you start

  • Check you're in the right workspace. Drafts are saved per workspace.
  • Decide who should see the draft: just you, or everyone in the workspace.

Open the feature

To save a draft, choose Publish in the left sidebar. The Publish Content composer opens. To find saved drafts, choose Publish > Draft.

Steps

  1. Write your post. You can save it without selecting social accounts, or select accounts if you want to tailor the content for them.
  2. Check the sharing option on the Save Draft button. To change it, open the arrow next to it and choose Only Me or Team Sharing.
  3. Click Save Draft. The button may show your current sharing choice, such as Save Draft Only Me.
  4. Later, choose Publish > Draft to see your Drafts.
  5. To narrow the list, click Filter By and choose a Team member, Post Type or Social Account.
  6. Click Use Draft to open it in the composer. Finish the post, then schedule or publish it as usual.

Duplicate a draft

  1. In Drafts, open the three-dot menu at the end of the draft's row.
  2. Choose Duplicate Draft. A copy appears in the list.

Delete one or several drafts

  1. To delete one draft, open the three-dot menu on its row and choose Delete Draft. Click Yes to confirm.
  2. If you deleted it by mistake, click Undo on the Draft deleted message before it closes. You see Draft restored and the draft is back in the list.
  3. To delete several drafts, tick the box at the start of each row. To pick all of your drafts at once, tick the box in the header.
  4. Click Delete Selected, which appears above the list in place of the Content heading. Click Yes to confirm.

Recover a post you didn't save

When you leave an unfinished post, the standard new-post composer can save your work periodically as an Only Me draft. It does not autosave while editing an existing post or draft, creating a template, or working in bulk, Advocacy or a shared calendar.

If an autosave completed, open Publish > Draft and click Use Draft to finish it. Your latest changes may not have been saved if you leave before autosave completes or saving fails. To keep your work deliberately, click Save Draft before leaving; don't rely on automatic recovery.

Change sharing from the list

Find your own item in the list and use its sharing control to choose Only Me or Team Sharing. Check the saved sharing state before assuming teammates can use it. Use Filter By to narrow the list, and clear filters when an expected item is missing. You cannot change another person's sharing setting.

Expected result

The draft appears in Drafts with its content, accounts, Date Created and Created By. It doesn't publish until you open it and schedule it as a finished post.

A duplicated draft appears as a new row with the same content and accounts. A deleted draft disappears from the list.

Example

You're writing a product launch post but the price isn't final. Select your Facebook Page, write the post and leave the price blank. Open the arrow next to Save Draft, choose Only Me and click Save Draft. When the price is ready, open Publish > Draft, click Use Draft, add the price, choose Schedule under When to post and click Schedule.

Limits and permissions

The draft filter can also show a Posts section for approval-related post types when that filter applies.

  • Only Me drafts are visible only to you. Team Sharing drafts are visible to everyone in the workspace.
  • Only the person who created a draft can change its Sharing Options or delete it.
  • You can only tick, delete or bulk delete drafts you created.
  • A teammate with the Client role can't delete drafts in a workspace where they are a client.
  • Undo only appears when you delete a single draft with Delete Draft. Drafts you delete with Delete Selected can't be brought back.
  • Only one unsaved post is kept for you. If you start another new post and leave it unsaved, it replaces the earlier one, so finish or schedule a recovered draft first.
  • To set a date or a reminder for a draft, choose Scheduled Draft from the arrow next to Save Draft. This doesn't publish the draft. See Manage draft reminders.

Troubleshooting

  • A draft is missing: check you're in the right workspace and clear any filters under Filter By. A teammate's draft only shows if they shared it with Team Sharing.
  • Save Draft is greyed out: add valid post text or media. You can save a draft without selecting a social account.
  • You can't change who sees a draft: only the draft's owner can change its sharing.
  • You can't tick a draft or there's no Delete Draft option: a teammate created it. Ask them to delete it.
  • Some selected drafts weren't deleted: you can only delete your own drafts. The list reloads to show the ones that are left.

Identify a rolling recovery draft

A draft labeled Unsaved post (auto-saved) is the composer's rolling recovery copy. The explanation below the label warns that your next unsaved post in this workspace can replace it. It is different from deliberately saving a normal draft with Save Draft. The label appears in draft lists and cards; templates do not use this label. Check the label before treating a recovery copy as a permanent draft.
