Add a website's RSS feed to Social Champ. Use Auto RSS to turn new articles into posts automatically, or Suggestion to keep the feed as a source of post ideas.

Before you start

  • Copy the feed's full link, for example https://example.com/feed.xml.
  • Check you're in the right workspace.
  • For Auto RSS, connect at least one social account to post to.
  • For Auto RSS, the feed must include a publish date for each item. Auto RSS uses that date to find new articles.
  • Some feeds give each article a date in the future, such as a job's closing date or an event's date. Auto RSS can post from these feeds too. See Limits and permissions for how it treats them.

Open the feature

Choose Publish in the left sidebar, then choose Auto RSS to post automatically, or Suggestion to save the feed for ideas only.

Steps

  1. In Auto RSS, click Add RSS Link (or Add New RSS Link if you already have feeds).
  2. Type a name in Website Title (up to 30 characters), such as "Company blog".
  3. Paste the feed link into RSS Feed Link. If you don't have one, click Suggested RSS Feeds and choose Add RSS next to a feed.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Pick your accounts and post settings, then click Add RSS. See Configure automatic RSS scheduling for each option.
  6. To save a feed for ideas only, open Suggestion instead and click Add RSS Link. Fill in Website Title and Rss Feed Link, then click Save.

Expected result

In Auto RSS, you see the message RSS Feed has been saved successfully and the feed appears in your list with its title and link. Social Champ starts posting new articles to the accounts you chose.

In Suggestion, you see RSS suggestion has been created successfully and the feed appears under Your Suggestions. Nothing is posted automatically.

Example

To share your company blog automatically, open Auto RSS and click Add RSS Link. Type "Company blog" in Website Title, paste https://example.com/blog/feed into RSS Feed Link and click Next. Pick your LinkedIn Page, click Next, then click Add RSS. To keep an industry news site for ideas, open Suggestion, click Add RSS Link, fill in both fields and click Save.

Limits and permissions

  • Use a publicly accessible HTTP or HTTPS feed. Private network addresses, local files, and redirects to private networks are not accepted.

  • If you don't see Auto RSS or Suggestion in the sidebar, your plan or role doesn't include it.

  • YouTube accounts can't be used with Auto RSS. They show RSS not supported for this account.

  • If you add an X account, articles with links count against your monthly X link-post limit and may not publish once it runs out.

  • Adding a feed to Suggestion doesn't add it to Auto RSS. Add it to both if you want ideas and automatic posts.

  • If a feed gives its articles dates in the future, such as a jobs board that uses each job's closing date:

    • Auto RSS normally orders those articles by where they appear in the feed, not by their dates, and treats the top of the feed as the newest.
    • The first time Auto RSS checks the feed, usually soon after you add it, it doesn't post the articles the feed lists at that moment. It posts articles the feed adds after that.
    • If you add the feed turned off, that first check happens when you turn it on, so the articles it lists at that moment aren't posted either.
    • Changing an existing feed's RSS Feed Link to a feed like this posts the articles it already lists. To avoid that, add it as a new feed.
    • Editing a feed like this can post articles it already lists to any account you add in that edit, and can post an article again if its date has changed, for example when a closing date is extended.

Troubleshooting

  • You see "Enter a valid RSS feed URL": check the link is complete, such as https://example.com/feed.xml. Spaces and invisible characters copied with a pasted link are removed for you.
  • You see "Invalid URL. Please enter a valid RSS feed link.": the link works but isn't an RSS feed. Look for a "RSS" or "Feed" link on the website and use that instead.
  • You see "We couldn't load this RSS feed right now": the website may be blocking Social Champ. Try again later or ask the site owner.
  • You see "This RSS feed doesn't include a publish date for its items": Auto RSS can't tell which items are new without one, so it would never post from this feed. Use a feed that includes publish dates.
  • Editing a feed shows "This feed's items don't include a publish date": the feed's latest items have no publish date, so Auto RSS can't post them. Replace its link with a feed that includes publish dates.
  • The Next button is greyed out: fill in both Website Title and RSS Feed Link.
  • Posts from a jobs or events feed go out after the job or event has closed: your queue may still hold older posts from this feed. Open Queue and delete the ones you no longer need.
