Add a comment that's posted under your post right after it goes live, or after a delay you choose.

Before you start

  • Select an account on a network that supports first comments: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads or X.
  • Have the comment text ready. Hashtags and links often work well here.

Open the feature

Choose Publish in the left sidebar to open the Publish Content composer. Select your accounts. Below the text box, each network gets its own options panel, such as Instagram Options or LinkedIn Options. Click the panel to open it.

Steps

  1. Open Select social account and tick the accounts to post to.
  2. Type your post and add any media.
  3. Open the network's options panel (for example Facebook Options).
  4. Type your comment in the First Comment box. Use the icons below it to add emojis (Add Emojis), hashtags (Add Hashtags) or an image (Add Media) where offered.
  5. To delay the comment, open Schedule First Comment and choose a time, from Immediately to 48 hrs.
  6. Repeat for each network that needs a first comment.
  7. Under When to post, choose your option and click the button at the bottom right.

Expected result

Your post publishes first. The comment follows straight away, or after the delay you picked. If you chose a delay, the panel shows Comment will be posted with your delay after your post goes live.

Example

To put your hashtags in a comment on Instagram, select your Instagram account, write the caption and add a photo (Instagram needs one). Open Instagram Options, type your hashtags in First Comment and choose 5 min in Schedule First Comment. Choose Schedule, pick a time and click Schedule. Five minutes after the post goes live, the hashtags appear as its first comment.

Limits and permissions

  • Each network has its own First Comment box. A comment you write for one network isn't copied to the others.
  • First comments aren't available for Instagram or Facebook Stories, Pinterest or Google Business Profile.
  • If you see a red info icon next to First Comment, your plan doesn't include it. Hover over the icon for details.

Troubleshooting

LinkedIn first-comment plan restrictions apply to LinkedIn. TikTok retains its own comment-disabled and mobile-notification restrictions; Google Business does not depend on the LinkedIn entitlement.

  • You can't see a First Comment box: check you've selected an account on a supported network and that you're not posting a Story.
  • The post went live but the comment didn't: Calendar shows Your post is officially up! However, the first comment couldn't be published. Open the post in Calendar and click Retry in its preview to send just the comment. Don't repost the whole post. If there's no Retry, see Resolve a failed or incomplete post.
  • The comment box shows an error: shorten the comment or fix the highlighted text, then try again.
  • The X First Comment box is greyed out: Who can reply in X Options is limited. Set it to Everyone to add a first comment.
