Write a different version of your post for each network, or for each account, without creating separate posts.

Before you start

  • Select at least two social accounts. Customize only appears when you've picked more than one.
  • Customize is for new posts. It isn't shown when you edit a post that's already scheduled or published.

Open the feature

Choose Publish in the left sidebar to open the Publish Content composer. Select your accounts, then find the Customize switch above the text box.

Steps

  1. Open Select social account and tick two or more accounts.
  2. Type your post and add any image or video. This is the starting version for every network.
  3. Turn on Customize. A tab appears for each network you selected.
  4. Choose a network's tab and edit its text, media and options. Check the preview, then move to the next tab.
  5. To give one account on a network its own version, click Customize separately to split every account on that network, or click the split icon on one account (Customize this account separately).
  6. Under When to post, choose your option and click the button at the bottom right, or save a draft.

Expected result

Each network, and each account you split, publishes its own version. In Calendar you'll see one post per account, each with the text you wrote for it.

Example

To share a product launch on your Facebook Page and LinkedIn Page, select both, write a short, friendly post and turn on Customize. Choose the LinkedIn tab and rewrite the text in a more professional tone. Choose Schedule, pick a time and click Schedule. Facebook gets the short version and LinkedIn gets the professional one.

Limits and permissions

  • Turning Customize off removes the separate versions. Finish your edits before you switch it off.
  • Customize separately isn't available for YouTube, Pinterest or Google Business Profile, because their required options are shared across accounts.
  • Customize separately isn't included in every plan. If you don't see it, check your plan.
  • Customize edits one version per network. Customize separately splits a network's version further, so each selected account on that network can have its own copy. The Customize toolbar setting is different: it only changes which composer tools are shown.
  • Customize toolbar (under More tools) only changes which tools you see in the toolbar. It doesn't create network versions.

Troubleshooting

  • You can't see Customize: select at least two accounts, and check you're creating a new post rather than editing one.
  • A warning says you've hit a network's character limit: turn on Customize and shorten the text on that network's tab. The other networks keep the longer version.
  • You can't see Customize separately: check you've selected two or more accounts on that network, and that it isn't YouTube, Pinterest or Google Business Profile.
  • A network's version looks wrong after you changed accounts: open each tab again and check the text before you schedule.
