Create a poll

Add a poll to a post on X or LinkedIn so your audience can vote on up to four options.

Before you start

• Select an X or LinkedIn account. The Polls tool only appears when one is selected.
• Don't add an image, video or GIF. Polls can't include media.

Open the feature

Choose Publish in the left sidebar to open the Publish Content composer. Select your X or LinkedIn account, then click the poll icon (Add Poll) in the toolbar below the text box. A Poll panel lists each network you can add a poll to.

Steps

1. Open Select social account and tick your X or LinkedIn account.
2. Type your post. On X, this text is your poll question.
3. Click the poll icon (Add Poll), then choose the network in the Poll panel.
4. On LinkedIn, type your question in Your question *.
5. Fill in Option 1 * and Option 2 *. Add Option 3 and Option 4 if you need them.
6. Set Poll Duration *:
   • LinkedIn: choose 1 Day, 3 Days, 1 Week or 2 Weeks.
   • X: choose days, hours and minutes, from 5 minutes up to 7 days.
7. Click Done.
8. Under When to post, choose your option and click the button at the bottom right.

Expected result

The poll icon turns active and the preview shows your poll. Once published, the post appears on X or LinkedIn with the options for people to vote on.

Example

To ask your LinkedIn followers which webinar topic they prefer, select your LinkedIn Page and write a short intro. Click the poll icon and choose LinkedIn. Type "Which topic should we cover next?" in Your question *, add "Hiring" and "Remote work" as Option 1 and Option 2, and pick 1 Week. Click Done, choose Schedule, pick a time and click Schedule.

Limits and permissions

• Polls are available for X and LinkedIn only.
• You can't add images, videos or GIFs to a poll post. On LinkedIn, you also can't add a poll to a document post.
• LinkedIn questions can be up to 140 characters. Each option can be up to 25 characters on X and 30 on LinkedIn.
• Each option must be different from the others.

Troubleshooting

• The poll icon is missing: select an X or LinkedIn account.
• You see "Poll Limitations Alert": remove the image, video, GIF or document from the post, then add the poll again.
• Done is greyed out: fill in every field marked *, keep options within the character limit and pick a duration.
• An option says "This option contains duplicate content": change it so each option is different.
• You want to remove the poll: open it again and click Delete Poll, or click the bin icon next to the network in the Poll panel.
