Reconnect a social account
On this page
Refresh an account's connection when it has expired or is about to, so your posts keep publishing.
Before you start
- Switch to the workspace the account is in.
- Have the login for the social network account that manages the Page, profile or channel.
Open the feature
Choose Settings > Workspace > Social Accounts. The Manage Accounts page opens and shows each account's status.
When accounts in your workspace are disconnected, a warning also appears at the bottom of the screen: Your posts could not be published because 2 accounts are disconnected. Click Fix now on it to open Manage Accounts showing the expired accounts. In the post composer, the warning sits just above the Save Draft and publish buttons, so both stay usable while it is shown.
Steps
- Find the account. Look for the status Expired, Expiring soon or Expiring today. To see only those, click Expired Accounts or Expiring Soon at the top of the page, or type the name in Search.
- Click the account's reconnect button:
- In grid view, click Fix on an expired account, or the Reconnect icon on any other account.
- In list view, click the reconnect icon in the Actions column.
- Sign in to the social network with the account that manages this profile.
- Allow all the access Social Champ asks for.
- Wait to be taken back to Manage Accounts.
Find accounts by connection health
Use the Active Accounts, Expiring Soon, Expired Accounts and Locked Accounts summary filters to find accounts needing attention. Clear the selected health filter to return to the full list. A locked account needs its access or capacity resolved; reconnecting alone does not unlock it.
Reconnect notifications
When Social Champ detects an expired connection, it can notify the account owner and eligible workspace team members. Email notifications follow each recipient's notification preferences. Several affected profiles in the same workspace can appear in one email. Delivery is asynchronous. Temporary notification queue failures are retried automatically; use the account status in Social Champ to check whether a connection needs attention.
Expected result
The account's status changes to Active (or No expiry date for networks whose connections don't expire). New scheduled posts can publish using the restored connection. Posts that already failed remain failed until you retry or reschedule them. See Resolve a failed or incomplete post.
Example
Your Facebook Page shows Expired and a post for it failed. Open Settings > Workspace > Social Accounts, find the Page and click Fix. Log in to Facebook, allow access and return to Social Champ. The Page now shows Active. Reschedule the failed post from Calendar.
Limits and permissions
Status wording differs by view. Grid view uses Expired, Expiring soon, Expiring today and Active. List view can show Token expired, Expiring today, Expires in N day(s), Connected or Account is locked.
- The account owner can reconnect social accounts. Admins and Editors can also reconnect accounts in their workspaces.
- If a client connected the account, only they can reconnect it. You'll see Notify instead of Fix. Click it to ask the client to reconnect.
- Reconnecting won't bring back a Page or permission you removed on the social network. Allow everything the network asks for during sign-in.
- The reconnect button is greyed out for Locked accounts and for some account types.
Troubleshooting
- The account is still Expired: sign in with the social network account that manages the Page or channel, and allow every permission it asks for.
- The reconnect button is greyed out: if the account is Locked, click Upgrade or free up an account slot on your plan.
- You see Notify instead of Fix: a client connected this account. Click Notify so they can reconnect it.
- A post failed while the account was expired: reconnect it first, then see Resolve a failed or incomplete post.
- The disconnected-accounts warning has no Fix now button: Authors can't reconnect accounts. Ask the account owner, an Admin or an Editor to reconnect them. Click the close button to hide the warning.
Reconnect an account for inbox sync
If Engage shows Reconnect Account beside a social account, open that control and authorize the same account again. A provider can reject inbox access while the account still appears connected for publishing. The reconnect indicator also covers authentication failures found during inbox polling.
After reconnecting, refresh the account list and check for new inbox activity. The indicator clears when the saved reconnect is newer than the polling failure or a later poll succeeds. Reconnecting does not guarantee recovery of older missing messages or reviews. Ask an account owner or a team member with account-management access if you cannot complete authorization.
