Change publishing preferences
On this page
Turn composer helpers on or off, such as hashtag suggestions and automatic link shortening, and check your X link post allowance.
Before you start
- These preferences belong to your own login. Changing them doesn't change anything for your teammates.
Open the feature
Open Settings in the left sidebar, then choose Personal > Publishing Options. The General Settings page opens.
Steps
- Find the preference you want to change. Each one has a short description and shows Enabled or Disabled:
- Instagram Auto Crop: crops images to an aspect ratio Instagram supports. It applies to Recycle posts only.
- Hashtag Suggestions: suggests recently trending hashtags while you write.
- Tag Suggestions: suggests business pages and accounts to mention or tag in your posts.
- Shorten Links by Default: shortens links you add in the composer automatically. Turn it off to keep links full-length.
- Click the switch next to the preference. The change saves straight away. There's no separate save button.
- To check your X allowance, look at the X Link Posts card below the list. It shows how many X link posts you've used, your limit and the date it Resets.
Expected result
The preference shows its new state (Enabled or Disabled), and the composer uses it the next time you create a post.
Example
You want your links to stay full-length. Open Settings > Personal > Publishing Options and switch off Shorten Links by Default. It now shows Disabled. Choose Publish, paste a link into a new post, and the link stays as you typed it.
Limits and permissions
- Instagram Auto Crop only affects Recycle posts, not posts you create in the composer.
- The X Link Posts card only appears when your account has an X link post allowance. Plain X posts without links don't count towards it.
- Your X link post allowance depends on your plan and any add-ons you've bought.
Troubleshooting
- A switch flipped back on its own: the change didn't save. Reload the page and try again.
- The composer still behaves the old way: close the composer and open a new post. Preferences apply to posts you start after the change.
- The X Link Posts card is missing: your account has no X link post allowance, so there's nothing to track.
