Turn long links in your posts into short ones, using Bitly or Champ.ly.

Before you start

  • Decide which shortener to use. Bitly works only for the accounts you connect it to. Champ.ly shortens links for every other account when it's turned on.
  • To use Champ.ly, turn on its toggle on the Champ.ly card in Settings > Workspace > Integrations.

Open the feature

To connect Bitly, open Settings, then choose Workspace > Link Shortening. To shorten links in a post, choose Publish in the left sidebar and add a link to your post. Then choose Shorten Links in the toolbar below the text box.

Steps

  1. Open Settings > Workspace > Link Shortening and click Create New. If no accounts are connected yet, click Connect.
  2. Under Step 1 - Select Account(s), open the account list and tick the accounts you want Bitly to shorten links for.
  3. Under Step 2 - Select Link Shortening Platform, click Connect next to Bitly. Sign in to Bitly and allow access.
  4. Back in Social Champ, choose Publish and write a post that includes a link.
  5. Choose Shorten Links in the toolbar. The Link Shortening panel lists each link in your post.
  6. Turn on Shorten all links, or use the toggle next to a single link to shorten just that one.
  7. To use your own short domain, click the link icon next to a link. In Add Custom Domain, type your domain (for example, custom.ly) and click Add.
  8. Schedule or publish the post as usual.

Expected result

Each shortened link is replaced with its short version in your post. Your Bitly accounts appear on the Link shortening page, each with a toggle to turn Bitly on or off for that account.

Example

To share a long product page link from your Facebook Page with Bitly, open Settings > Workspace > Link Shortening and click Create New. Tick your Facebook Page, click Connect next to Bitly and sign in. Then choose Publish, select your Facebook Page and paste the product link into your post. Choose Shorten Links, turn on Shorten all links, then schedule the post.

Limits and permissions

  • Connecting Bitly and opening Link Shortening in Settings depends on your plan and needs permission to manage social accounts.
  • The toggle at the top of the Link Shortening panel turns link shortening on or off for your whole account. It's saved in your publishing options. When it's off, your links are published in full.
  • If you switch link shortening off, links already shortened in the post you're writing go back to their full version.
  • If a toggle won't switch on, no shortener is available for your selected accounts. Connect Bitly for them, or turn on Champ.ly in Settings > Workspace > Integrations.

Troubleshooting

  • Shorten Links isn't in the toolbar: add a full link to your post first. The button only appears when the post contains a link.
  • The link toggles won't turn on: connect Bitly for the selected accounts, or turn on Champ.ly in Integrations.
  • The panel says Link shortening is disabled: click Enable Link Shortening.
  • You see "Please select at least 1 social account": tick at least one account under Step 1 - Select Account(s) before you click Connect.
  • Bitly stopped shortening links for an account: open Link Shortening and check the account's toggle is on.
