Require labels on new posts
On this page
Require workspace members to label posts before publishing, scheduling or queueing them.
Before you start
You need workspace Owner or Admin access and a plan that includes Publishing Rules (the page identifies the required plan). At least one active post label is required before the rule can be saved as enabled. If there are no labels, you can create one through the prompt on this page.
Open the feature
Choose Settings > Workspace > Publishing Rules.
Steps
- Check that the correct workspace is selected.
- Turn on Require a label on every post.
- If the workspace has no labels, follow the prompt to create a label before saving the rule.
- Read the notice about upcoming posts. Use Review them if the page finds existing posts without labels.
- Under Label requests, choose Approve to create a requested label, or Decline and optionally explain why.
- To stop requiring labels, turn the rule off.
Decide a label request from a notification
Open the label-request notification in the intended workspace. If your role allows a decision, choose Approve or Decline. For a decline, complete the note and confirmation shown by the card. Check the resulting decision state before responding again; already decided requests cannot be treated as new requests.
Expected result
New posting actions require a label. Existing upcoming posts are not retroactively blocked; the page’s coverage notice is a reminder to review them.
Example
Create a Campaign label, enable the rule, and ask authors to label new campaign posts before they schedule them.
Limits and permissions
- The rule applies to the selected workspace.
- Authors can request labels; admins decide those requests.
- A downgrade does not automatically turn an enabled rule off. You can turn it off, but need an eligible plan to enable it again.
Troubleshooting
- The rule cannot save: create an active label first.
- The switch reverts: the save failed; reload and retry.
- Older posts still publish without labels: the rule does not retroactively stop them. Review them separately.
