Send files and voice notes in a direct message
On this page
The conversation displays the sent attachment or voice note when sending succeeds.
Before you start
Open a conversation on a connected account with permission to reply. The network’s reply window must still be open.
Open the feature
Open Engage, select an account and open the conversation.
Steps
- Keep the conversation reply tab selected rather than an internal note.
- Use Attach Media to choose a supported file. Review the attachment before sending; remove it if you chose the wrong file.
- For a voice note, use the microphone where offered, allow microphone access, record and stop. Listen to the recording or delete it before sending.
- Send the reply and check that it appears in the conversation.
Expected result
Example
Send a product image in a supported conversation, then confirm that the image appears in the reply history.
Limits and permissions
Bluesky direct messages are text-only: neither media attachments nor voice recording is available. WhatsApp also offers Send current location.
- Attachment types and limits differ by network. The composer can allow only one attachment at a time.
- Instagram limits the text of a direct message to 1,000 bytes, where emoji and accented letters count as more than one. See Find and reply to a conversation.
- Voice recording is not available for WhatsApp, LINE, Discord or Bluesky. Use the microphone only in conversations where it is offered.
- Recording and file attachment controls can disable one another.
Troubleshooting
- Recording does not start: allow microphone access in the browser.
- Replying is disabled: check the network’s messaging window and account authorization.
- A file is rejected: use a type and size supported by that conversation.
Failure handling and current data
After an attachment is sent, an already-removed temporary file does not turn the confirmed send into a failed request. Other cleanup failures are recorded without asking you to send the message again.
Keep the inbox open
Document downloads open in a separate tab when the browser needs to display a remote file. A sent voice note that cannot load returns to its play/retry control instead of leaving a permanent spinner. Retrying asks for the media again; it does not send another message.
Save a contact in Social Champ CRM
If your account has the CRM pilot enabled and you have the required workspace and profile access, choose Save to CRM on a customer comment or message where offered. Then choose View contact to add notes, tasks or deals. This does not send a reply. See Manage contacts and follow-ups in CRM.
