Like positive comments automatically
On this page
Set up a rule that likes comments Engage reads as positive, so happy customers get a like from your account without anyone pressing the button.
Before you start
- You need to be the account owner or a workspace admin.
- Your plan needs Engage sentiment. Without it, Sentiment is positive and Like item are greyed out with the tooltip Sentiment rules aren't part of your current plan.
- Connect at least one Facebook Page, LinkedIn Page or Bluesky account, so it shows under Accounts in your Engage inbox. Liking isn't available on other networks.
Open the feature
Choose Engage in the left sidebar, then click Automation Rules at the top right of the inbox and click Create New Rules.
Steps
- Type a name in Rule name.
- Under Then apply the following actions:, choose Like item. The condition Sentiment is positive is added for you.
- Optional: to like on only some accounts, add the condition Profile(s) & Message Type under If an item matches the following conditions:. Pick the Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Pages or Bluesky accounts to like on, then choose Comments (and Ad Comments if you want those too) under Select message type. Without this condition, the rule likes comments on every Facebook Page, LinkedIn Page and Bluesky account in the workspace, including ones you connect later, and says so under Like item.
- Click Save Rule.
Expected result
The rule appears in All Rules with a like icon under Rule Action and its Status switch on. A rule without Profile(s) & Message Type reads Sentiment is positive (all Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Pages and Bluesky) under Rule Criteria. From then on, a few minutes after a matching comment arrives, your account likes it, and the comment shows a Liked by automation badge in the inbox. Hover over the badge to see which rule liked it. If the same social account is also connected to another workspace, people there see the badge without the rule name.
To see everything a rule has liked, click the eye icon next to Edit on that rule. Rule activity lists the latest 100 comments it liked, couldn't like, or liked and later removed.
Example
Your Facebook Page gets dozens of "Love this!" comments on every launch post, but your LinkedIn Page is for customer support. Click Create New Rules and name the rule "Like fan comments". Under Then apply the following actions:, choose Like item. Add Profile(s) & Message Type, pick your Facebook Page and choose Comments. Click Save Rule. The rule likes positive comments on the Facebook Page and leaves the LinkedIn Page alone.
What it won't like
A positive label isn't enough on its own. The rule skips a comment when:
- Engage reads it as neutral, negative or unclassified, or hasn't read it yet.
- It asks a question, such as "Love it! When does it ship?". Liking a question without answering it can read as dismissive, so answer those yourself.
- It contains a link or a web address.
- It's very long. The check reads only the start of a comment, so long comments are left for you to read.
- On Bluesky, it's a reply in a thread that didn't start with your own post.
- It mixes praise with a complaint, is sarcastic, praises someone else, or looks like spam or a promotion.
- It sits under a post about bad news, such as an outage or an apology.
- The check isn't sure, or the comment isn't in a language it supports.
- It was written by the account itself, such as your Page replying to a comment.
- The same person already got an automatic like from that account in the last day.
- It's already liked.
Limits and permissions
- Only the account owner or a workspace admin can create, edit or switch rules on and off.
- Works on Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Pages and Bluesky. If the rule also covers other accounts, comments on those aren't liked, and the rule says so under Like item.
- If every account a rule is limited to is disconnected, the rule switches off rather than start liking on every account in the workspace. It also switches off when the accounts left can't be liked, such as an Instagram account after the Facebook Page is removed. Edit it to pick other accounts, or remove Profile(s) & Message Type to like on all of them.
- Like item runs on its own: a rule with Like item can't have other actions or a Post is condition. Create a separate rule for labelling or assigning the same comments.
- You can add other conditions, such as Text contains keywords, to like fewer comments. A comment has to match every condition in the rule.
- It only likes comments that arrive after you save the rule or switch it on. Comments that were already in your inbox aren't liked.
- Each account has an hourly and a daily limit on automatic likes.
- If someone edits a liked comment into something that no longer qualifies, the like is removed. It's also removed if your team changes the comment's sentiment from positive, and the badge goes if your team unlikes the comment in Engage. A comment that was unliked is never liked again by the rule.
- Likes happen a few minutes after a comment arrives, not instantly.
Troubleshooting
- Save Rule is greyed out: hover over it to see what's missing. For example, Like item needs the condition "Sentiment is positive" or Like item only applies to comments.
- Saving shows "Like item works on Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Pages and Bluesky. Choose at least one of those channels.": add one of those accounts under Profile(s) & Message Type, or remove the condition to like on all of them.
- Saving shows "Like item works on Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Pages and Bluesky. Connect one of those to this workspace first.": the workspace has no account that can be liked through. Connect a Facebook Page, LinkedIn Page or Bluesky account and check it shows under Accounts in your Engage inbox.
- Saving shows "Unlock this channel before saving or turning on a Like item rule": the only accounts the rule could like through are locked. Unlock one, or pick another account.
- The rule switched itself off: every account it was limited to was disconnected, or none of the accounts left can be liked. Edit the rule to pick accounts. If none are left, switching it on likes on every Facebook Page, LinkedIn Page and Bluesky account in the workspace.
- The rule saved but nothing is liked: check its Status switch is on, that the comments arrived after you saved it, and that Engage shows them as Positive. Open Rule activity to see what the rule did.
- Rule activity shows "Would like (test)": automatic liking is in test mode on your account. The rule records what it would have liked, but doesn't like anything yet.
- Rule activity shows "Couldn't like" with "Reconnect this account": reconnect that social account. New comments are liked again once it's connected.
